$30 for a One-Hour Segway Tour of Boston or Cambridge from Boston Gliders Segway Adventures

The Client: SEG Gliders USA puts an innovative spin on traditional Segway tours by developing a theme to the experience, which riders then use to explore their city’s unique culture in a more creative, interactive fashion. SEG Gliders currently has adventure and rentals in Boston, Orlando, Clearwater Beach, and Key West.

The Challenge: SEG Gliders USA stays up-to-date on the latest marketing and advertising initiatives, and uses them to expand their market visibility and drive customer awareness through social media. Though the company successfully draws in a large number of tourists via their current advertising strategy, Allan Danley, the company’s head of public relations, wanted to tap into a more immediate potential market: savvy Boston locals.

The Deal: For its Groupon deals in the Boston and Cambridge area, SEG Gliders USA featured two one-hour segway tours for $30, as well as a two-hour Segway adventure for $50.

The Results:  What Groupon was able to do for SEG Gliders USA has been very influential in the growth of the company as a whole. Allan Danley, their head of public relations believes their Groupon success has “brought the noise” for SEG Gliders. Since launching in 2009, SegGliders USA delivered 8,000 tours in their first year. Of those, a little over 20% of the yearly sales came from Groupon. Not only has Groupon increased their market awareness and brought in a large influx of customers, but it has also given put extra money in their pockets. The company as a whole is very happy, including their staff who because of Groupon will not get cut early in September like they usually do because their business is booming.  Groupon has been able to deliver activity to their door, and that activity only breeds more activity.  SEG Gliders USA has seen so much activity since their first Groupon feature, that they have seen about $100,000 per year in extra purchases from the Groupon customers alone.  The increase in customers and extra money brought in has also allowed SEG Gliders USA to purchase an extra 28 segways, which value at about $5,800 a piece. These extra segways have granted them the ability to increase their current business and expand it into other markets.
